Italy Digital Nomad Visa – The Latest Information

If you’re a digital nomad looking to relocate to a new country, Italy could be a perfect choice for many obvious and good reasons. It’s no surprise that Italy stands out as a top digital nomad destination in Europe. Luckily, the Italian government voted the digital nomad visa program into law on March 28, 2022, and the visa could be introduced anytime soon.

Is there a digital nomad visa for Italy?

As of writing this, there is no Italy digital nomad visa. However, the government plans to launch the digital nomad visa in the foreseeable future to attract digital nomads to travel and work legally in the country for a year. The visa program is designed for professional non-EU citizens who can work remotely using technological tools and boost and diversify the national economy.

The visa will be valid for one year. Please be informed that the visas in Italy are classified into two types: short-term visas (up to 90 days) and long-term visas (more than 90 days).

A tourist visa will grant applicants to stay and travel for 3 months in 180 days. In most cases, a foreigner will apply for a tourist visa.

It’s clear that if you wish to stay for a year or two, a digital nomad visa is the best option for you. But you’ll have to wait until it’s announced by the government of Italy.

What other visa to apply for at the moment?

Digital nomads may have to wait for a couple of months before they can apply for a digital nomad visa. However, if you can’t wait, you can apply for any of these 5-long-term visas:

  • Italian Retirement Visa
  • EU Blue Card
  • Family Visa
  • Self Employed Visa
  • Working Holiday Visa

If you wish to stay no longer than 3 months, a tourist visa is the best choice.

Who can apply for the Italy digital nomad visa?

Citizens from EU nations can work in Italy without a visa or work permit. Anyone from non-EU countries who are highly qualified workers and freelancers can apply for this visa. Although reportedly everyone from university professors to circus employees, seafarers, and professional nurses are recognized as high-quality workers, there is no official declaration from the government.

For Italy digital nomad visa, although it’s not official, you will most likely need to meet the following requirements:
