Georgia Digital Nomad Visa

Nestled between the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains, Georgia is undeniably the most visited tiny country in the South Caucasus. And there are a plethora of reasons for it.

The spectacular landscapes, hot summers and cold winters, surreal museums, food galore, remote mountain villages, vineyards, watchtowers, mysterious cave cities, UNESCO world heritage sites, you name it. So it is quite easy to understand why Georgia is the finest European country for travelers.

Today, the former Soviet republic is among the best countries in the world for digital nomads, freelancers, and location-independent entrepreneurs. Gone are the days when Georgia attracted only avid hikers, history buffs, nature lovers, and wine connoisseurs – as of 2020, it is all about digital nomads and remote workers.

On 27 August 2020, in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the government of Georgia launched a state program called “remotely from Georgia” for freelancers, remote workers, and entrepreneurs to travel and work remotely from Georgia for a year.

Since then, Georgia has become a popular digital nomad hub for international remote workers and digital nomads. Citizens from 95 countries can apply for the digital nomad program to get a 1-year Visa-Free entry into Georgia.

Within a year of its announcement, the country successfully lured more than 2700 digital nomads and remote workers from across the globe. And the number of the digital nomad community is ever growing.

Today, Georgia is the leading destination for digital nomads and entrepreneurs. With fewer travel restrictions and generous visa conditions, the popularity of Georgia’s digital nomad visa is growing daily. On top of that, the low cost of living in Georgia is a shining perk for a digital nomad.

A digital nomad in Georgia has tons of benefits and opportunities. Starting with the affordable cost of living, fast and reliable internet, laptop-friendly cafes, free workspace, and favorable tax rates. Factor in the safe surroundings, and you will see why many digital nomads love to stay in Georgia and even extend their visas.

It is important to note that this specific program is technically not a visa but an entry permit that allows foreigners from 95 countries to stay and work remotely from Georgia for a year. However, the application process is similar to other digital nomad visas. Applicants apply online and within 10 days receive the answer from the government.

The Georgia digital nomad visa also allows dependants of the applicants to travel to the country once the applicant is approved for the visa. This means that the children, spouse, and other dependants can live in Georgia with no extra income requirement (unlike other digital nomad visas where the income requirement doubles). They do, however, need to have health insurance coverage (local Georgian health insurance is also valid), for at least 6 months of their stay. The applicant must mention the family members in the application if he intends to travel with the family. That is all.

One of the best things about the Georgia visa, besides the free visa application, is the facility of free workspaces for digital nomads. Digital nomads are connected with local businesses that offer co-working spaces free of charge. How cool is that!

If you are a digital nomad, a freelancer, or a business owner searching for the best country to travel to and work for a long-time, Georgia might as well fit the bill.
