Lithuania is the biggest Baltic State and has slowly become the playground for many start-ups and entrepreneurs.
It is part of the European Union and the Schengen Zone, but it is one of the least popular among tourists.
The capital Vilnius doesn’t have a large digital community, but there are many ex-pats that chose to settle in the Baltic country.
However, Lithuania boasts picturesque landscapes, forests, lakes, flatlands, and shores abundant with amber.
It also has some of the fastest internets in the world, easy-to-navigate transportation, almost everyone under 25 speaks English, and it’s affordable, and tons of other reasons why you should visit Lithuania or settle for a few months as a digital nomad.
Since Lithuania doesn’t offer a digital nomad visa, there are other visa options to enter, stay and work in this country.
Who Can Apply for the Digital Nomad Visa for Lithuania?
Lithuania is part of the EU and the Schengen Zone, so nationals of those countries can travel freely and stay in the country for up to 90 days, after which they can apply for a residence permit.
Digital nomads that are non-EU citizens can apply for the Schengen visa. Holders of this visa can stay in Lithuania for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
If you are planning on leaving and re-entering Lithuania or the Schengen Area during the 180-day period, make sure to select the multiple-entry option when filling out the application.
If you wish to extend your stay in Lithuania, you should apply for a Lithuanian National Visa (D Category).
Who Needs a D Visa for Lithuania?
A D category or national visa is a long-stay visa, and it applies to all non-EU/EEA nationals who wish to stay in Lithuania for more than 3 months and up to one year to study, work or reunite with family.
The requirements for a D visa are similar to the requirements needed for a short-stay visa. In addition, you should provide the following documents:
- Student visa. To apply for a student visa, you must have a mediation letter, proof of English or Lithuanian language proficiency, and an acceptance letter from the University.
- Work visa. You will need a work permit and work contract to be able to apply for a work visa.
- Family visa. This visa requires you to have a birth certificate and a marriage certificate.
Once one year has passed, and you want to continue your stay, you can apply for a residence permit.
Lithuania Digital Nomad Visa Requirements
Digital nomads who want to call Lithuania their home for three months can obtain a digital nomad visa if they meet the following requirements:
- Valid passport for at least 3 months
- Filled out a standard form with personal data
- Medical insurance valid for the Schengen zone
- Proof of accommodation/address
- Travel health insurance
- Return ticket
- Sufficient funds to support yourself during the entire stay (at least $40 per day for the entire duration of the stay)
How to Apply for the Lithuania Digital Nomad Visa
The application process for the Lithuania digital nomad visa/Schengen visa is similar to the ones of the other EU countries.
To successfully apply, you must follow these steps:
- Fill out the application form
- Collect all the necessary documents and requirements for the Lithuanian visa
- Make an appointment for an interview
- Show up for the interview at the appropriate Lithuanian Embassy or Consulate
